What needs to die in your life?

Updated: May 20, 2025

When themes repeat we have to pay attention to what is being said.

I found myself thinking on this while sitting in what would be my second Resurrection Day service. It was the second one because like the women early that Sunday morning, I went searching for the Lord. A Lord that no longer was dead. The thing is he needed to die in order for us to be saved. He needed to die in order for us to be healed. He needed to die in order for us to be free. He needed to die so that he could be raised from the dead.

In thinking on this, my question to you is what has to die in order for you to be free? What needs to die in your life in order for you to be healed? What needs to die in your life in order for you to be raised?

We tend to hold onto what is familiar because it is comfortable, but in reality, these are the things that are holding us captive and Jesus came to set the captives free. If Jesus came to set us free and died to do it, why do we continue to hold onto things that need to die? Why do we continue to hold onto people and places that no longer serve a purpose in our lives? Why do we?

By holding onto the things that need to die, we stay full of stuff that prevents us from moving forward. Think of it like this, if the Disciples held onto a dead Jesus they would not have been able to preach about a risen Savior. They would not have received the Holy Spirit and we would not know about Jesus over 2,000 years later. We should take a page put of their book and let go of the dead things in our life.

My prayer for you today is that you spend time in prayer and reflection with the Lord so he can reveal to you what is dead in your life, what you need to let go, and how to completely cut it out of your life.

Amen.
