Being intentional about silence.

Silence is an interesting concept. How many of us can sit in complete silence? How many of us can do it for an extended period of time?
I found myself in such a position recently. Having to sit in complete silence is not an easy task. Especially when there are so many distractions. I found myself running through my to-do list. I found myself trying to solve problems when I should have been in the moment. I found myself not being able to quiet the thoughts going on in my head. I found myself not being able to be still.
I am reminded of David's writing in the 23rd Psalm "He leads me beside still waters." Have you ever seen still waters? It looks like glass. It is non moving; It is not disturbed. You have to physically touch it for it to move. There is no sound; there is no motion; there is no movement. It just is.
How many of us do not take the time to just be? How many of us do not take the time to just sit and stay still?
My prayer for you today is that you learn to intentionally take moments of stillness. I pray that you learn to let your body rest in non motion and that you let your brain rest in non movement. I pray this for you so that you can be intune with the silence enough to be able to hear God's word to hear him speaking for he does not always show up in the burning bush but he often shows up in the breeze by still waters.
